Canadian Blood Services is a not-for-profit charitable organization. Regulated by Health Canada as a biologics manufacturer and primarily funded by the provincial and territorial ministries of health, Canadian Blood Services operates with a national scope, infrastructure and governance that make it unique within Canadian healthcare. In the domain of blood, plasma and stem cells, we provide services for patients on behalf of all provincial and territorial governments except Quebec. The national transplant registry for interprovincial organ sharing and related programs reaches into all provinces and territories, as a biological lifeline for Canadians. Through its Centre for Innovation, Canadian Blood Services drives world-class research and education in transfusion science and medicine and related fields such as cellular therapies and organ and tissue transplantation.


Héma-Québec is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to efficiently meet the needs of the Québec population for quality blood and other biological products of human origin.

Its principal mandate is to supply Quebec’s hospitals with safe, superior-quality blood products. It is also the exclusive distributor of Stable Products in the province and manages and operates Quebec’s only Stem Cell Donor Registry, public Cord Blood Bank, public Human Tissue Bank and Mothers’ Milk Bank.

HémaQuébec also provides specialized laboratoryservices to its Québec healthcare system partners and shares its knowledge in innovation with the medical and scientific community.

Héma-Québec is also proud to offer an Online ImmunohematologyTraining Program geared primarily towards laboratory technicians working in hospital blood banks.

The Macopharma Bursary recognizes that nurses provide a vital link in education training and patient care related to transfusion medicine by providing nursing members of CSTM with financial assistance to attend the annual CSTM Scientific Conference to pursue ongoing education in transfusion medicine.

The Ortho Award recognizes an individual CSTM member who has provided a major service or innovation in transfusion medicine. The financial award and conference expenses of the recipient are covered by Ortho Clinical Diagnostics. The award is not restricted to physicians, technologists or nurses.
